Healthy Home Design Review
Thorough, expert review of your home design so you can move forward knowing it’s right for your goals, your lifestyle, your health and well-being, and the planet.
You have big dreams for your home!
The Healthy Home Design Review gives you the assurance that you're getting your home design right.
No more second guessing your home design
The design review ensures you aren't missing an opportunity to make your design even better. Plus a fresh set of eyes on the plans can do wonders for catching design mistakes.
Never lose track of your project goals and vision
Every design review starts with understanding your project goals and vision to ensure your home will align with your specific lifestyle needs, and support your health, well-being and the health of the planet.
Feel confident and Save money in the long run
The design phase is your best opportunity to get the design right. Making changes when it's still on paper is much easier and cheaper than making changes to your house during construction.

How it works
1.
Complete the Project Intake Form
Click here to fill out the inquiry form.
The Design Review service is for new homes and major renovations. The service requires that you already have plans and elevations drawn for your project as this is what I'll be reviewing.
2.
First Call
I'll reach out to schedule a 20-minute no commitment call to discuss your project.
3.
Deposit and File Upload
Pay your first invoice and upload all project information such as floor plans, elevations, surveys, engineering drawings, Pinterest boards, and inspiration images.
Fill out the project questionnaire.
4.
Second Call and Final Payment
After my initial review of the documents and questionnaire, we'll have a 1-hour video call to talk through where you're at, your goals, struggles, etc.
The final payment is due prior to commencement of the design review.
5.
Design Review (Approx. 2 weeks)
I conduct my review - studying the plans and elevations and providing recommendations for form, layout, window design and placement, and other factors that will ensure the house is meeting your goals, plus health and sustainability factors.
You'll receive a video walkthrough explaining two design options, PDFs and CAD files.
6.
Final Call and Alterations
You'll study the design review outcomes and provide feedback for what works and what doesn't.
I'll make one round of edits and send you PDFs and CAD files for the final design recommendations.
This is much more than a floor plan review...
The comprehensive Design Review studies your floor plans, window placement, roof design and many other factors to ensure your home is comfortable to live in, provides ease to your daily life, supports your health and well-being, and is energy efficient and sustainable.
It's architect design guidance without the high cost of custom home design.
It's peace of mind.

About Kate
Hi!
I’m Kate Hamblet, a licensed architect and owner of Balanced Architecture, based in New Hampshire. I’ve been obsessively designing sustainable buildings since 2007.
Having lived in many places and worked with hundreds of clients, it’s evident that most homes aren’t designed to help the people that live in them thrive. Often, our homes are actually hindering our health and well-being.
I specialize in wellness design to help families create homes that add ease to their daily lives while improving their health and well-being and the health of the planet.

FAQs
This service is a review of the design you have, so if you’re working with an architect or designer, this review is a second set of eyes on the design, making sure it’s meeting your goals and values, and incorporating healthy home design and sustainability features.
Yes, we will meet for one 60-minute video call after I conduct my review so you can ask questions and provide feedback for what works and what doesn't. After our meeting, I'll make a final round of updates and send you the final PDFs and CAD files.
I’ll need to know where the project is located so that I can understand climate and other local conditions. I’ll also need the plans and elevations, a building section if you have it. Other very helpful documentation are topographical surveys, plot plans showing your property boundaries, engineering plans, inspiration images & Pinterest boards.
This is up to you. As long as you have the floor plans and exterior elevations designed to a final concept level, I can do the review.
Concept design is the first phase of design where you’ve figured out what you want the house to look like and roughly how it’ll be laid out. The end of this phase would be considered ‘Final Concept Level’. The following design phases are Design Development (where you work out all the finer details) and Construction Documents (the set of plans that the contractor builds from).
No, this review requires that you already have a plan. I offer custom design services where I create plans from scratch. You can learn more about those at balancedarchitecture.com
Yes, your house plan can either be something an architect or designer is creating for you, a plan you are creating yourself, or a stock plan that you purchased online.
No, these packages do not review zoning or building codes. Since codes are so specialized to your location, you will need a local expert to provide zoning and building code guidance.
No, the final presentation you receive from me will not be suitable for a building permit. You’ll need to work with a local expert to create the set of plans needed for a building permit and for construction.
Yes. I’ll provide you with a PDF and CAD files (.dwg) of the floor plans and elevations that you can hand over to whoever will be drawing your project for you.
A healthy home keeps the people that live in the home healthy, happy and safe. A sustainable home keeps the planet healthy and happy. Here's a blog post that explains how I design all homes to be both healthy and sustainable.
