Why I Use A Vitamin C Shower Filter

Do you filter your drinking water? Yes? Good!  Alright, how about your bathing water?  If you are like most of us, then your answer is probably 'no'.  But you should be!

The water we bathe in needs to be just as clean as the water we drink.  This is because our skin and our airways are capable of taking in the chemicals that are lurking in our water.  It doesn't take long for chemicals absorbed through our skin to enter the blood stream.  And when we take hot, steamy showers, chemicals in the water vaporize which we then inhale.

This is why filtering bathing water is so important!

I have been using the Aroma Sense Vitamin C shower filter for a year and half now, and I love it!  But I'll get into that in a little bit.  First, let's dive a little deeper into way filtering bath water is so important.

FYI: There is an Aroma Sense promo code below.  If you use the code to save 15% on your order, I will receive something as well.  Win, win!

If you use the promo code Balanced15 you will receive 15% off your entire Aroma Sense order.  Go to https://www.aromasenseusa.com/ to check out all their shower head and aromatherapy options!

Why Filter your bath water?

Chlorine and chloramine:

If you have city water, then your water is likely treated with chlorine or chloramine (a mixture of chlorine and ammonia).  This is necessary to kill bacteria in the water, but it can do harm once it reaches your tap water.  Chlorine is known to dry out skin and hair, but it may have some more harmful affects as well.

Bacteria and fungus from the shower head:

Gross, right?  Bacteria and fungus build up in shower heads and are then sprayed onto you as you shower.  The bacteria is usually harmless, but some could lead to illnesses, especially if you have a weakened immune system.

Vaporized chemicals:

Chemicals in your bath water can vaporize as you're showering, allowing the chemicals to be inhaled and affecting the air quality in your home.

Your skin has a microbiome too:

Microbiomes are everywhere these days.  Well at least in your gut, mouth and skin.  Since chlorine effectively kills bacteria, it could be messing with your skin's microbiome.  This could lead to more severe skin irritation and rashes.

Why I love the Aroma Sense Shower filter

Water pressure:

I know this doesn't have anything to do with aromatherapy or vitamin C, but I think it's my favorite part about this shower head, so I'm starting with it.

The shower head produces the perfect water pressure which comes out as a powerful mist, so it doesn't hurt like some high-pressure showers.  It feels quite invigorating yet relaxing (and feels amazing on sore muscles!).  And the coolest part is that the shower head doesn't use any more water than a typical shower head to do it.

Aroma:

It is pretty luxurious taking a shower that smells like lavender or lemons.  There are many scents to choose from.  You can go with an invigorating scent to bring you energy or a peaceful scent to bring you calm.  Read the Mayo Clinic's take on aromatherapy here.

Vitamin C:

"Vitamin C reacts with chlorine to form a safer compound that won't dry out your hair and skin" according to the Aroma Sense website.  The vitamin (that comes in the form of ascorbic acid) neutralizes the chlorine.  So if you have dry skin and hair like I do, you might see some clear benefits from using a vitamin C shower filter.

Microfiber filter:

This filter helps trap the large particles and pipe contaminants that travel through your water system and spew out of your shower head.

Easy to install and replace cartridges:

The Vitamin C cartridges and filters last for about 3 months, so you do have to replace them every so often.  But it's so easy to do!  So don't be turned off by the need for replacements.

Finals Thoughts...

I love this shower head because it's addressing multiple healthy home elements; good water quality, good air quality, and it's helping to calm our minds.

This item may sound like a luxury, but I have to admit, it is pretty nice stepping into a shower that smells like lavender!  Between the aromatherapy and the amazing water pressure, this shower helps bring calm to my day.

And we all need to find ways to reduce stress and bring more calm into our lives.  I love that my bathroom has a few spa-like qualities without having to spend a fortune to create such a calming atmosphere.

Plus I get to enjoy the benefits of a vitamin C filter and the microfiber filter, so I know pollutants are being removed from my water.

You know who else loves vitamin C showers?

This photo was sadly filed under ' April Fools'.  Actual footage of Leonardo Dicaprio using his vitamin C shower have yet to be found.  But he truthfully does own an apartment decked out with vitamin C shower filters.
